What is fair trade?
Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalised producers and workers - especially in low-income regions.
The advantages of current international trade practices are not visible to all people in the world. Fair Trade is about giving disadvantaged people power: by paying producers and workers fair prices for their work, by helping them gain the skills and knowledge they need to develop their businesses and to operate in the global economy, and by challenging unfair trading practices. It is about providing fair go, not charity.

Our fair trade policy
Seed Jewellery only purchases jewellery from artisans according to internationally recognised fair trade and ethical business practices. Most of our overseas suppliers are members of the International Fair Trade Association.
Many of Seed Jewellery’s artisans are based in developing countries and we always pay a fair local price for their work. We operate in a transparent and ethical business manner at all times and provide 50 per cent pre-payment for all fair trade orders to provide cash flow and to cover the cost of raw materials. We offer artisans constructive feedback on their pieces and keep them up to date with Australian market trends to help them improve their designs and grow their businesses.
